Internet of Things Application- Smart Devices Help To Live Better

Devices are getting Smarter!

Among all new innovations in recent times, IoT is one among the prominent things in discussion and is of growing importance in the technology front.  Let’s get to know more about what it is.

As we all know, the world of connectivity, social networking, has emerged steadfast in the past few years and there is no doubt that we are fitting into the adage “it’s a small world after all”. Similarly, the efforts are on to improve the way we live at this internet age. The important point to note here is, Wi-Fi and mobile data has become the most common and cost effective mode of communication medium these days.  At this juncture getting the devices connected and making it smarter for efficient usage is the growing mantra.

So you may wonder what is gung-ho about getting the devices connected onto internet?

The rule book for the future is going to be, “Are you a gadget? Let’s get you connected!”

But why would anyone prefer to have smart devices connected to each other.

Let us take an example, like you are leaving to your office and it’s a sunny day outside. While you return back home you would prefer a chilled, air conditioned room at a preset temperature to suit your mood and physical body condition. Now, you can program your Smart Air Conditioner which is connected via internet to switch on the AC by the program set by you. The program could be to switch ON the AC at  6:30PM with a set  temperature of 18 deg C. And Lo! You have just made a connection with your AC which is automatically programmed to switch ON at the parameters specified by you!  You can look at this scenario with a much better automation.  Your AC knows that you are reaching home through a navigation map in your smartphone or your car travel routes and switches on 5 minutes before you reach with the temperature set at your preferred number learned by your daily activity!  This is just an  example.  It is possible that all equipment or devices in your home like fridge, oven, TV, LED lights communicate with each other and working according to your need! Like a Sensor Network but within IoT framework!

Among big innovators Google has already created self-driven cars which work on Wi-Fi connectivity. Samsung has also tied up on a joint venture to creating smart gadgets. There are many smart gadgets like smart cars, smart ovens, smart TVs, smart ACs and smart refrigerators, coffee machines, smart health devices (e.g. Fitbit, keeps track of your total health, eating, working out and helps you ascertain more facts about yourself). Name any device, that is ready to get connected. That is how the technology arena is improving these days.

There are many more examples which will throttle us with useful information to make our lives more interesting and better in this internet era. Now, are you an internet savvy and ready to plunge into IoT?The choice is yours! ;)

Will you call this as IoT or M2M or Connected Objects or Smart Objects Network or Web of Things or by any other name?

All Your IoT Devices - One Platform‎

What makes the Internet of Things (#IoT) plausible and relevant in the recent times?

IoT is revolutionizing the way we live. With an unlimited scope of bringing  a 360 degree change in every aspect of life by interfacing every device with internet, it rather simplifies some of the most complex processes. From industries to corporate business houses to the residential communities, every entity is poised to benefit from such a futuristic development in the technology spectrum. So, what is the core element of IoT that makes it so adorable?

It is all about
(i) interconnecting devices using various standards
(ii) collecting all possible data including device health parameters, environmental / operating conditions, measured values etc,
(iii) consolidation and transmission of those data using available channels following various protocols,
(iv) storing in a cloud for further analysis,
(v) observations and decisions based on those data and
(vi) implement decisions.  Data transmission would be essentially secured, sustainable and reusable within the purview of standard internet protocols.
Technology development in all the above said areas actually helped to form a framework called IoT. Such framework has the potential to transform every device to a smarter one to help us to work and live,  better than today.

Assessing the challenges and limitations

IoT  has its own set of limitations and presumptive challenges even though most of the techniques and technologies are being used today in different forms. As many would imagine, they are mostly about privacy concerns and over dependence on technology applications. These challenges appeared to inhibit the success of Cloud storage technology in the past as well. As it is pretty well established today, Cloud is one of the most secure data storage platforms, also facilitating individual user access and data management. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration in predicting the same for IoT, enhancing user experience with absolute efficiency to a new horizon altogether.
